Rachel Brashier, Deputy Chief of Staff
As the Deputy Chief of Staff, Rachel oversees all legislative matters for the 8th District, most recently playing a leadership role in shaping the City’s comprehensive homelessness policy as well as with the passage of the $1.2B homeless housing bond, Measure HHH. Additionally, Rachel coordinates intergovernmental relations between CD8 and overlapping jurisdictions.
Prior to joining the Council Office, Rachel worked for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as a press secretary focusing on housing and homelessness issues Citywide; she also served as a legislative deputy and liaison to the City Council in the Villaraigosa administration. Before joining the 8th Council District, Rachel was the Assistant Director for Community & Local Government Relations at UCLA.
Rachel attended Syracuse University receiving a B.A. in Policy Studies and an M.P.A from NYU. She is currently a board member of the Watts Labor Community Action Committee, the CA Black Women’s Democratic Club, as well as Southwest Community College Foundation. A native Angeleno, Rachel was raised in Compton and Watts and continues to work for the progressive and substantive development of South Los Angeles. Rachel has been avid golfer through the years and loves to travel.
